I'll have a go at answering this. It's confused by the UK's transition from the JAA to EASA licensing.
My JAR-PPL(A), issued in 2011, is valid for 5 years so yes, I assume yours will have expired. My FRTOL is valid for 10 years so presumably yours will have expired too.
The requirements are hidden in CAP 804 ([Deep breath] Section 7, Part B (Schedule 7) Part C, Section 2, Paragraph 9-(1)(c)). Renewing an expired licence (single-engined/single pilot aeroplane) seems to require meeting FCL.740.A of Part-FCL (type rating) and Appendix 9 to Part–FCL (skills test).
I believe this effectively means you'll have to undertake training to ensure you can pass the skills test, pass it and pay to have your licence reissued. (Not forgetting the medical.) You will end-up with a part-FCL PPL (which do not expire).
I'm not sure about having to retake the FRTOL tests, I think you may just have to re-sit the theory (PPL comms), fill out a form and pay but the answer is probably in CAP 804 somewhere!
The easiest/best thing to do would be to pop-in to your local friendly FTO and discuss with them...

I own a PPL(A) license following JAR-FCL. Recently, this license has been exchanged for a European EASA license. My training was on a motor glider (TMG), I do not have ratings for SEP, but TMG and Ultralight only. In Germany I will have to fly a one hour test on an SEP to get the rating (plus about 5h for training). What do I have to do in the US to get the rating?
I'm a student pursuing a US Private Pilot License, and recently scheduled my checkride. I've been training in a 1981 Piper Warrior (PA-28-161), but if its annual goes sour I may have to take my club's 1980 Piper Archer (PA-28-181). I have well over §61.109's 40 hours in the Warrior alone, and only ~10 hours in the Archer. I have a separate club checkout and CFI solo endorsement for each... would encounter if I need to change the tail number or model number of my checkride plane and listed hours therein, potentially long after IACRA submission?
I'm a low time PPL. In my personal opinion, practice pans, perhaps one or two a year, are a good thing. Practice in a procedure that builds confidence removes one more item from the pucker factor list if it does all go wrong and lets your brain focus on the situation. The D&D cell are always happy to assist and I know that they welcome it as it gives them practice as much as it does me. As a PPL holder in the USA, what do I need to have on the aircraft (or otherwise?) in order to be able to legally fly at night? LSAs are much cheaper to operate, so it looks very tempting in order to be able to fly more hours, I'm just concerned about getting stuck out at dusk, especially in winter.
Is it possible to rent a float plane with a private pilot's license? Flying floats is one of the main attractions for me to learn to fly. However, after some searching on the internet I can only find wheeled aircraft that are available for rent in my area. Am I missing something? Are there flying clubs or partnerships that have float planes available? I would love to fly floats but owning a seaplane is not in the cards for me at this point in my life.
I'm starting to save up to get my pilots license and I was thinking I might be able to do some amount of prep work by using a flight simulator. That being said, I realize there must be some huge limitations to what I can actually learn, on my own, on a flight sim. So, out of curiosity, are there good things to try practicing on my own in a flight sim? There's got to be a few basic things that would make it worth my time... Otherwise I'll just go back to flying around aimlessly like I usually do :).
I know that for land aircraft and seaplanes that they require separate endorsements to fly them. However, for the case of amphibians, what do you need to fly one? Do you need to have another, completely different endorsement, or just a seaplane and land endorsements? What about if you always fly it on water or land?
I believe anything the FAA refers to as a "rating" upgrades automatically with your license. For example, if I get my instrument rating on my Private Pilot License, I don't have to retake the instrument checkride when I get my commercial license in order to fly IFR commercially. This is not true for license classes (single engine land, multi-engine land, single engine sea, multi-engine sea). I understand you're required to have an AZF-license, on top of a BZF-license to do IFR radio transmissions in Germany; I also figure the test is similar to the BZF license with a written and an oral part. What's a typical sequence of radio calls in the oral test? Are there any particular gotchas one should be aware of? I've read through a list of phrases (out of something called NfL), so I'm vaguely familiar with the differences from US phraseology, but I got from the BZF test there are other differences, like you tend to get a question "Are you ready to copy", rather than the "advise
